Movie was the best! Sophia Coppola playing Mary was pretty sour though. Winona Ryder would've been better, being the first choice. But, Andy Garcia was great as Pacino's nephew in this third edition.
Not as good as the first two godfather, but much better then the avarage gangster movie, the thing that i like the most in this gangster epic is how Coppola show the dead of Pope Johannes Paulus I. I think the movie is still underrated, Pacino his acting is very supreme and the rest of the cast did a great job to.
since end of '74 "the godfather part II" and then it back to the sequel in 16 years. al pacino, diane keaton, and talia shire who did reprise all "the godfather trilogy". great flashback(in footage)of "the godfather" & "the godfather part II" and it very sad ending through.
The Godfather films require stamina because of the length, at over 3 hours long, the film is not fast paced, yet elegantly created.
The introduction of De Niro in the flashbacks gave another dimension to the already established story, which I?m sure is contributory to most fans thinking this was the best of the Godfather films.
It?s a must see for any fan of this genre.
This film was alright. I was confused at times. There seemed to be so much going on at once, it was hard to keep track of it all. Andy Garcia did a good job with this role, as did Joe Mantegna - Fat tony lol - All in all not too shabby. And now I can proudly say ive seen all the Godfather movies.
"Once a goon will always be a goon" i think it became a way of life, it so rooted to his system, Al Pacino is as usual flawless
Why on Gods green earth did Vincent have to sleep with Mary? I mean, come on. They're an italian family from New York, not rednecks from Louisiana. Shit. But despite this incestuous plot strand and a few other weaknesses, this is actually really good. It's biggest strong suit is the ending, where everything comes back to bite Michael in the ass.
Less good than parts 1 and 2, but you have to know how it ends! Astonishingly, folk die. What were the odds.
Yes, I even liked Part III. Yes, I suppose it wasn't as good as I and II, but it still was a great follow up and conclusion.
I was a little bit disappointed. It doesn't have the same concept as the earlier two movies. I haven't watch it all yet, so we'll see what the final rating shall be.
even though completely diffrent to the first to i think the change is very good and AL Pacino plays an amazing part
An appropraite ending for the tragedy set up particularly in Part II. Unfortunately, I didn't end up caring about Mary as much as I should because Sofia is just not a very good actress.
Wow,I am a complete person now, lol. What a fine movie to polish off this trilogy. This was really amazing so many faces made famous by these movies and can I say dam Andy garcia never looked better.Anyway like I have said before I know I am like the last idiot in line to finally see these movies but if there are any strays out there wandering around wondering if the hype is worth it.YES it is.=)
The final installment has a completely different feel and environment to it. I don't know how the hell Ms. Keaton and Ms. Fonda slipped in, but Mr. Garcia does as well as Mr. De Niro did in part II....aren't there a couple loose ends at the end?
I have never seen such a sad ending.
Wow,this was really good. Al Pacino is a great actor and this was as good as the other godfather movies. This is another definete must-see!!!
Not as good as the first 2 movies, but one to see to complete the set.
Loads better than some of the crap made today thats for sure.
Muchos criticos se quejan de esta cinta, llamandola "decepción", pienso que simplemente, esta cinta, es superada por sus antecesoras en varios aspectos, cosa que no la hace mala.
The circle of life and the repetition of history bring this man to bare soul to the actual corruption he can't escape.
Still good, but not as good as the previous two films. It's still good to see the story of Michael come to a close, and I liked his moral crisis at play in this film.
The story is set in 1979 when, before retiring, an aging Michael Corleone tries to go legitimate by entering respectable real estate and communications deals, but is slowly drawm back into the world of organized crime against his will. A great film to end the series of The Godfather. Great acting by Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Andy Garcia, Eli Wallach, Joe Mantegna and Sofia Coppola. Great directing by the person who bought you The Godfather and The Godfather part 2. One of the best crime films of the 1990's and 1990. I have to admit, the ending was a bit sad. A few gory scenes in this film and a few shooting scenes. Not the best film in The Godfather series, I think that the best one in the series is probably The Godfather part 2. The whole series is great, one of the best mafia series ever.
Al Pacino makes his final appearance as Don Michael Corleone, head of the Corleone mafia family. In this third part to the story, he has sold his illegal businesses in an attempt to win back his family - his wife having left him because she did not approve of the crime and violence. Michael is also seeking personal redemption - he never sought out the gangster life, and now that he is getting older he seeks absolution. Michael still has problems to face, however, which will challenge his ability to do business without resorting to violence.
His young nephew Vincent (Andy Garcia) wants a place in the family business. Vincent's father was Michael's older brother, and unfortunately Vincent shows every sign of being as hot-headed as his father was. Michael will be hard pressed to find suitable work for Vincent, and to prevent him getting into trouble. Michael's problems with Vincent escalate when Vincent is attracted to his daughter Mary (Sofia Coppola) - Michael does not approve of this match between first cousins.
In addition, an up-and-coming gangster called Joey Zasa (Joe Mantegna) has his eyes on Corleone territory. Michael begins dealings with the Vatican, intending to buy out their controlling share of a large conglomerate that will give him power in the European market. When he becomes involved with the Vatican, Michael learns that Vatican business can be just as corrupt and dangerous as mafia business, and the deal threatens to draw Michael back into the violent world he has tried to put behind him.
The third and weakest of the "Godfather " films, this still has quite a bit working in its favour. Although the direction is not as strong as with its predecessors (due to personal problems in Coppola's life) it is still competent throughout and outstanding in parts. The cast are not as consistently brilliant as in the other films, especially the inexperienced Sofia Coppola who was drafted in as a last-minute replacement to play Mary. On the other hand, this may be Al Pacino's strongest outing as Michael Corleone, full of depth and emotion. If this film is missing anything, it is some of the criminal violence and action that the other two had - as reflected in the lower 15 certificate. However, just because this third part is not quite the equal of its predecessors doesn't negate the fact that it is an outstanding film in its own right.
This was a good movie. Not as good as the first two movies. But good cast and great acting. Still worth a watch.

Too many people have been too hard on this move.... I have to say that in terms of story, it was quite strong and it was an excellent continuation of the 'The Godfather' saga. Yes, Sofia Coppola was terrible, but minus the scenes with her and you have one of the best gangster movies ever made.
The conclusion to this movie, is absolutely one of the best that I have ever scene and definitely develops an emotional wallop. It stays with you for a long time, after it's viewing. A great conclusion to a phenomenal series.
